I'll just cut right to the chase with transfer news... I am staying in Chapman Hill Ward and Sister Johnson is headed to Pringle Ward in South Salem. I am very sad this companionship is coming to an end. Sister Johnson has truly become a sister to me in these short 12 weeks. I know that these changes are part of God's plan though and I know that Sister Johnson is needed elsewhere. AND I can't wait to meet Sister Runs Through and start a new adventure!
This week was evidence of God's perfect timing. We have been working with a lady named Jolie since before I got here. She has been on date to be baptized a couple times in the past but one thing or another lead to having to push it back and then just be off date all together. She is very strong in her knowledge and testimony of the gospel, it is simply her health that has held her back from baptism.
Well last Saturday night a crazy idea was planted in our minds by our former Ward Mission Leader. Jolie’s sister has been taking the missionary lessons in a different Ward and actually had a baptism planned for Saturday the 7th. The crazy idea was, if Jolie’s health permits why not let her be baptized with her sister?
We let this idea sit in the back of our minds until Sunday after church. Miraculously Jolie made it to church all three hours, this was a major break through, and afterwards she was still feeling great! Because of this development we started to seriously consider it, and after getting permission from our leaders we proceeded to go forward with full force on preparing for Jolie to be baptized!!
After a week of craziness it all came together into an amazing day! Jolie and her sister Monica were able to be baptized together and start this new life and new journey together. God knows best. His timing is perfect and I know those two sisters will remember that day for the rest of their lives and find strength in each other as they continue on the path.
I love Jolie, she is such an amazing example of a true disciple of Jesus Christ. I have seen her grow and change in my short time here and I am so proud of her! I will also forever remember her baptism and the peace that was so palpable as she entered into the waters of baptism and made her first covenant with her Heavenly Father.
"And after they had been received unto baptism, and were wrought upon and cleansed by the power of the Holy Ghost, they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ; and their names were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God, to keep them in the right way, to keep them continually watchful unto prayer, relying alone upon the merits of Christ, who was the author and the finisher of their faith" -Moroni 6:4
Just as powerful as her baptism was her confirmation the next day in Sacrament meeting when she was given the gift of the Holy Ghost to be her constant companion. This is one of the greatest gifts we have been given by our Heavenly Father in this life. I am so grateful that I have been so blessed as to have been born into the true church of Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to share this glad news with God's children!
Never forget how blessed you are! Use the gifts you have been given! Spread goodness! I love you,
Sister Peterson
