🌧️🌩️πŸŒͺ️🌨️ My week in 4 emojis

Hello all,

I can't believe it is already been two weeks of the transfer! I don't know how that happened. There are a lot of things we have been forgetting this week. We were reminded of one when we were inviting an investigator to come to the youth activity this week. Then we remembered... oh we are in charge of that... it's tonight! Our sweet investigator saw our distress and asked if she could pray for us. She did and it worked! It was a very successful night despite our lack of preparation. All I can say is thank you God!

This week I relearned the importance of setting goals, making plans, and acting on those plans. Our leader district felt we needed to raise the bar for finding new investigators. He left it up to the individual companionship to decide what that would look like. For us we decided to simply slightly raise that bar, to something still achievable but just above our reach so we would stretch and grow but still be able to meet our goals.

Mostly our goals involved talking to more people in a day and having the goal to hand out one Book of Mormon every day. As we sought the specific result we wanted, to find new investigators, we saw miracles happen! We found new people to teach this week and we ourselves saw what we were capable of doing when we worked hand in hand with the spirit. Nothing really story worthy, but a definite confirmation to me of the importance of striving for righteous goals. This is a skill I want to continue to develop and take with me even after my mission.

This week we had an unexpected rainstorm. We were caught completely off guard and ended up soaking wet multiple times this week. We also got caught in a hail storm! It was crazy, the hail was pea sized and as thick as a wall! Luckily we were able to take cover before the main shower started.

πŸ’›Spiritual Thought:

A couple weeks ago we talked to this lady named Cindy. She was a very interesting person, super nice and open and just wanted to talk and get to know the Mormon religion through asking us questions about ourselves and our experience with life and the church. As the conversation developed we got on the subject of science and religion.

I am a strong believer in God, I also believe that there are natural laws that govern our universe. I see no reason why the two cannot coexist. Now some may come at that statement with different arguments why they couldn't go together, but to end any of that I will say first and foremost I believe in God, and everything else falls into line according to that belief. When there are instances where God and science do line up though it just strengthens my faith.

As we talked with Cindy she explained how she believes in energy. Throughout your life you are giving energy to others, and receiving energy from others, the ultimate goal is to give so much that when you lay down in your grave you will have none left to give.

This week as I was reading in the New Testament I was reminded of this conversation. I was reading Matthew 19 where the rich young man comes to Jesus and asks him what he must do to gain eternal life. In verse 21 Jesus replies; "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me."

As I read I was reminded of our conversation with Cindy about energy. This plee from the Savior to give all you have isn't just material possessions. There is so much more that we have to offer to one another. Time, talents, love, understanding, in essence energy.

As Cindy said, our goal in life should be to give all we have. I want to one day stand before the throne of God empty handed having given it all away to the Lord.

I love you all so very much and hope you have a wonderful week,

Sister Peterson :)

Sorry no pictures this week, I will be better next week!

Life. It's crazyness. (June 4, 2018)

Dear everyone,

Someone poisoned the water hole!! Not really just a toxic allgi (I can't spell it.) bloom. But it's all good nowπŸ‘

Hi. This week flew by! I am now on my 7th transfer and going strong! A little tired and frazzled but hey that is what happens when you give it your all! I may be a little crazy but I am also crazy in love with this gospel!! (*Gasp! missionary in love? Scandalous!)

I'm going to try something a little different this week. We didn't have that many highlight experiences, just the everyday little miracles of being a missionary, so instead I'll tell you some of the little crazy things that are part of being a crazy missionary....

Between helping members and volunteering at a family shelter we have grown to love weeding. It is just so relaxing, and the weather is so nice right now, and it is just a satisfying activity!

I don't know how it started but for some reason Sister Johnson and I can only talk in German/French/Russian/Spanish/who knows what accents... (Example in video...) We are able to turn it off when we talk to people though... Most of ze time.

WE ARE CAT BURGLARS! (Explained in video...)

Weekly planning time has also become Gummy Bear Hunger Games time. Sometimes sugar is the only thing that keeps you sain, but that's OK because we also walk an average 3-4 miles a day so it all evens out.

We had to awkwardly and politely decline when someone ask us on a date to Dairy Queen. He didn't want to talk religion or politics, just life. Sorry but religion is life!

OK enough of all this. Time for a spiritual thought!

I have been thinking about sacrifice this week. As I read the talk One More Day, by Elder Taylor G. Godoy, I was reminded of a story I had recently read in the Book of Mormon. Alma 24 is about the Anti-Nephi-Lehies, a people who had previously been wicked but had repented and been converted to the Lord. Their faith is challanged when they learn that the Lamanites are going to war against them. The decision has already been made, they know in whom they have chosen to put their trust. They have made the covenant, or promise with the Lord that they will no longer fight. To seal this sacrifice they burry their weapons deep in the earth, and when their enemies come they are destroyed.

Elder Taylor G. Godoy says, "Personal sacrifice is an invaluable force that drives our decisions and our determinations. Personal sacrifice drives our actions, our commitments, and our covenants and gives sacred things meaning."

The Anti-Nephi-Lehies understood the principle of sacrifice, and they understood that the eternal blessings they received from following the Lord were far more precious than anything this world could offer. They were willing to lay down their lives rather than break the promise they made with God.

Now not everyone is asked to sacrifice the same things, we will probably not be asked to die for our beliefs but ask yourself which do you treasure more... This life and the things of this life, which God has given you, or the eternal promises and blessings God has in store for you?

I was not able to watch the devotional from President and Sister Nelson last night but I heard that the youth were asked to do a 7 day social media fast. This is one of those opportunities to ask yourself the above question, and the follow up question do I trust God that he will keep His promise?

I know with all my heart that God loves each and every one of us! I know that He knows us each individually and will reward us each individually as we commit as individual sons and daughters of God to sacrifice as he individually directs.

I invite each of you to read the talk and the chapter, links below, and ask your Heavenly Father in prayer how you can sacrifice this week.

I love you all so much and am so grateful to have each and every one of you as a part of my life!! God is good, we are so blessed!
